Stone Brewing is one of the largest craft brewers in the U.S., operating nationally and internationally for the past 25 years. They continue to be an industry benchmark, focusing on amazing customer experiences to pair with their world-class beer.

Background

Stone Brewing wanted to refine the customer experience for locating, purchasing, and delivering their products. The site used different purchasing methods that varied by section. This experience became even more disjointed as the business ramped up quickly to meet customer demand during the pandemic.

UX, UI & Visual Design Lead

I worked closely with the client to better understand each task and to further define problems, goals, and objectives. Then, I conducted a heuristic evaluation of the existing site, including several key task flows. These helped to determine several pain points and locate inconsistencies in the design system. I also performed a quick competitive and comparative analysis to determine how similar companies have addressed these areas and to review other more successful implementations.

Solutions

We worked closely with the Stone team to hone in on ideas at various levels. These included improving eCommerce by integrating MikMak for local purchases, enhancements to the beer finder, improvements to the education center, and a more consistent and impactful visual experience.

eCommerce Integration

Recommendations from the heuristic audit led to additional improvements to the site. As the brand evolved, Stone needed help designing versatile, scalable, and elevated areas to meld their old and new personalities. New layouts were created to provide more consistent and impactful experiences sitewide. These areas included the site navigation, Our Beers, and the Education Center.
